ECONOMIC CRISIS AND ORAL HEALTH

All of us dentists have been observing how the crisis is having a very negative effect on the oral health of the population. The explanation for this phenomenon can be found in several ways:

  1. Stress has been shown to be associated with an increased risk of periodontitis and dental caries.
  2. It also favors tooth clenching/grinding or bruxism that deteriorates the teeth, periodontium and jaw joints.
  1. People are going to the dentist less frequently and to solve pressing problems, not for prevention.
  2. A certain tendency to neglect daily hygiene as a consequence of worries.

The best way to deal with this situation is to visit the dentist, ask for an assessment of the oral situation and frankly ask for a scale of priorities adapted to our personal possibilities, but never abandon oral care, since the growth of the complexity of treatments and, as a consequence, of the costs, grows exponentially.
