Fixed Dental Prostheses

Fixed dental prostheses are devices that are integrated into the patient’s tooth structure, so they cannot be removed by the patient.

These are the most comfortable, reliable and durable dentures. Therefore, the patient’s quality of life will be improved.

There are two types of fixed dental prostheses: tooth-supported and implant-supported.

Fixed prostheses on teeth

Fixed prostheses on teeth, or tooth-supported prostheses, are a good alternative for patients who cannot have dental implants. Since these are supported only by the teeth.

Fixed prostheses on implants

In this case, dental prostheses are supported on implants. It is the best option to replace missing teeth, since the patient feels that they are natural teeth, with the same esthetics and functionality.

We distinguish between different types of fixed dental prostheses on implants

• Implant-supported bridges. Bridges on implants are used to replace several contiguous teeth that are damaged or missing, in a fixed and durable manner. • Hybrid Prosthesis. These are fixed structures screwed onto dental implants. They are recommended for patients who do not have any teeth, or with a diagnosis of short-term loss. This resin prosthesis is composed of a metal framework, to which the artificial crowns are attached, as well as an artificial gingiva. They are used to replace complete arches, 4 to 6 implants are needed to hold it.

Removable Dentures

Unlike fixed types of dentures, with removable dentures the patient can remove them for cleaning and sleep, and put them back in afterwards.

This treatment is especially designed for elderly people who cannot undergo more invasive treatments.

There are two types of removable dentures: removable partial dentures and removable complete dentures.

Removable partial dentures

Removable partial dentures are placed in patients who are missing several teeth. They are supported on teeth in good condition with the placement of hooks.

Removable complete dentures

They are used in patients without any dental piece, in cases where a complete oral rehabilitation with dental implants is not possible.

Overdenture

Finally, the overdenture is a complete removable prosthesis, which is anchored to the implants to improve their stability in the oral cavity. Although firmly anchored, the patient can remove the overdenture for proper hygiene.
