Tips for taking care of your mouth during the vacations

Who has never counted how many months, weeks or days are left until summer vacation?

The «look forward» to summer is no secret: going to the beach, walks in the mountains, afternoons at the pool, evening strolls or simply a day at home watching a marathon of your favorite saga.

With so much fun and relaxation, it is common that during this time of the year we leave our routines aside. (goodbye to lunchtime, goodbye to homework, goodbye to early mornings, …) and let’s give way to what really makes us enjoy (a vermouth with our friends and family, reading our favorite book or taking a nap in the sun).

The alteration of our usual routine prevents us from taking care of our mouth as we normally do (the appearance of cavities triples during the summer vacations) and that is the reason why from
Noguerol Clinic
we want to give you some tips so that you can look your best smiles this summer:

Watch out for sugary beverages and soft drinks

If during the year it is difficult to resist soft drinks, it is even more so during the vacations. Moderate your consumption. These beverages increase the risk of tooth decay and usually have an acidic pH that can damage tooth enamel. If soft drinks are your weakness, at least try to consume them without sugar.

The biggest threat to taking care of your mouth is lack of routine.

When we are on vacation, we tend to snack more between meals. We do not follow a routine for eating and, usually, for brushing. This is aggravated when we are doing outdoor activities, where we eat anything fast and fast, in order to continue enjoying the activity.

Our advice is to put a toothbrush in your bag or backpack, so that wherever you are, you can always take care of your mouth easily.

Moderate alcohol and tobacco consumption

Tobacco and alcohol are the most harmful substances for your health and dental esthetics.

These favor the appearance of halitosis and darken the color of the teeth. Not to mention that they aggravate the development of gum disease, which can ultimately lead to tooth loss.

Beware of drinks and food that are too cold

With the arrival of the summer heat, we increase the consumption of drinks and foods that are too cold, such as soft drinks or ice cream. Cold foods cause tooth sensitivity. This uncomfortable prickling sensation in the tooth is usually transitory and disappears quickly when it is a response to a cold stimulus.

Schedule a check-up with your trusted dentist for your return.

Even if you follow all of our advice, it never hurts to schedule a visit with your dentist for your return from vacation.

Watch out for the little ones in the house!

Summer is the season to play and enjoy, and that can sometimes lead to more unfortunate bumps and falls.

It is not uncommon to see children who have broken a tooth due to trauma, so it is important that you know how to act.

First of all, it is important to keep calm. The best thing to do is to look for that little piece of lost tooth, keep it in milk, and go to the nearest dentist so that the professionals can evaluate if they can reimplant it or if they opt for other treatments.
