Invisalign, orthodontics that is not noticeable in Clínica Noguerol

If you are thinking about improving your smile, you may want to opt for Invisalign treatment.

It is a highly esthetic orthodontic system based on transparent, almost imperceptible splints that gradually make small movements until an esthetic and functional smile is achieved.

It is an effective treatment that is indicated to correct virtually any dental alignment or bite problem.

Once you have made the decision to have a perfect smile and have chosen Invisalign to achieve it, what are the steps you will take throughout your treatment?

Phase I: first visit and orthodontic study

When you arrive at Clínica Noguerol, a specialist will assess with you your expectations and goals regarding your smile.

You will undergo a series of diagnostic tests that will be analyzed later in a clinical session by the medical team, made up of specialists in different areas of dentistry.

In this way, we will obtain a comprehensive diagnosis and a personalized treatment plan tailored to your requirements, which will be explained by our orthodontist, Dr. José María Bolinches, during a second visit.

Phase 2: what is ClinCheck?

Once you have opted for orthodontic treatment with invisible splints, Invisalign, we will take impressions of your mouth through the intraoral scanner.

A 3D model will be generated to simulate the dental movements that must be made to achieve the desired results.

This simulation is possible thanks to ClinCheck, a software developed by Align Technology, the company that created the Invisalign brand, which allows both the patient and the orthodontist to know what the teeth will look like once the treatment is completed.

The process of sending impressions to the company for making the splints is streamlined. Thanks to the intraoral scanner we can send the files over the Internet, arriving instantly.

Phase 3: Start of Invisalign treatment Invisalign

The aligners arrive at the clinic in approximately 8-10 days. You will then receive your first set of Invisalign invisible splints.

You must wear the aligners for at least 22 hours a day and can only take them out to eat or brush your teeth.

In some cases it will be necessary to use shortcuts to perform some micro-movements successfully.

The attachments are small resin buttons attached to the teeth. The attachments allow small movements that the splint, by itself, would not be able to do.

Each Invisalign splint is worn for an estimated 10 to 14 days and will be replaced with the next one after this interval.

The patient should come every 4 to 6 weeks to the clinic for a check-up, so that the progress of the treatment is controlled and the next splints can be delivered.

Phase 4: what is the refinement phase?

In some cases, once the patient has worn all the sets of splints, the orthodontist considers that the result can be improved.

We call refinement to the sets of splints requested to improve small aspects of aesthetics or bite, so that the result is optimal.

In this case we must differentiate between the number of refinements to be ordered according to the invisible orthodontic treatment prescribed for each patient:

  • Invisalign Lite, recommended in cases where only minor malpositions need to be corrected, includes only a refinement of the treatment.
  • Invisalign Full, on the other hand, is indicated for patients who need to correct more pronounced alignment or malocclusion problems and includes an unlimited number of refinements.

Phase 5: end of treatment and retention phase

Teeth tend to return to their original position once orthodontic treatment is removed. Therefore, the retention phase is as important as the rest of the treatment.
Once the specialist has finished the treatment, two types of retainers must be placed: fixed and removable -or Essix-.

Fixed retainers are thin, imperceptible wires that are placed on the inner side of the tooth from fang to fang, both in the upper and lower arches.

Essix, on the other hand, are removable retainers very similar in appearance to Invisalign splints. The orthodontist will individually prescribe both the number of hours a day the patient should wear the invisible splints and the time the patient should wear them.

We will verify that the retention phase is proceeding properly thanks to the reviews. Once the Invisalign orthodontic treatment is completed, you will need to come to the clinic one, three, six months and then one year after your last visit.

In these consultations, in addition to checking the condition of your mouth and ruling out caries or periodontal disease, we will verify that the retainers continue to fulfill their function and ensure the stability of the results.
